Popcorn Ball Recipe

As long as I can remember, I have heard the fond memories of my Grandma’s homemade popcorn balls at Halloween. She would wrap them in cellophane and tie them with a curled ribbon. While passing out homemade treats at Halloween is a way of the past, I certainly think these popcorn balls would be a great tradition to start in your family. They would make a sweet treat for neighbors, teachers or even a little surprise “BOO!”

What You Need:

  • 4 quarts (16 cups) popped popcorn

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup Karo® Light OR Dark Corn Syrup

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine

  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • 3 tablespoons festive sprinkles, optional

How To:

1. Pop popcorn (4 quarts) and set aside. I grew up with the Whirley Pop Popcorn Maker and still prefer it to this day.

2. Combine brown and white sugar, corn syrup, butter and water in a heavy 2-quart saucepan. Stirring constantly, bring to boil over medium heat. Continue stirring and boil 2 minutes

3. Remove syrup mixture from heat; stir in vanilla.

4. Pour syrup mixture over warm popcorn stirring to coat well. Add those festive sprinkles!

5. Once mixture has cooled slightly and is cool enough to be touched, spray your hands with nonstick cooking spray. Work quickly to shape twelve to fourteen popcorn balls before the mixture begins to harden.

6. Cool completely. Wrap in a festive cellophane bag and tie with bakers twine or curled ribbon.

7. Enjoy and let me know what you think!

P.S. I’ve also updated my Amazon page with some of favorite things to make the popcorn balls and more.
